Tom Jones has claimed that he survived the '60s and '70s by avoiding taking drugs.
The Welsh singer, 68, also said he never consumed excessive amounts of alcohol to ensure that he preserved his deep voice.
"I like to drink - I'm not a bloody alcoholic but I love good wine and beer and British pubs," he told Uncut.
"But I won't drink to the point where I hurt my instrument, my voice."
He continued: "I never bothered with drugs because I saw what was happening. Cocaine and all that s**t, you'd see entertainers in the toilet - it didn't look attractive to me. And smoking joints smelled bloody foul."
Jones releases new single 'If He Should Ever Leave You' on November 10.
