Ryan Adams plays gig in New York cafe

Ryan Adams and The Cardinals celebrated the release of their third LP by surprising customers in a tiny New York cafe to a lunchtime gig.

Billboard reports that the US musicians played five songs from Cardinology, which was released on October 28.

"We're going to play some music while you're having lunch," Adams joked before he, guitarist Neal Casal and drummer Brad Pemberton began the performance.

Requests were apparently taken from the crowd, many of whom learned of the gig on a fan website.

The Cardinals are due to continue their celebrations with a show at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem this Friday.
