Ray Davies has revealed that The Kinks have started writing new material.

The band's frontman told the BBC that a reunion could take place if the material is of a high enough quality. Davies hinted last month that a reformation could be on the cards, but said it would depend on the health of his bandmate and brother Dave.

The singer has now confirmed that his brother, who suffered a stroke in 2004, is currently well. "It depends if there's good music. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do," he said.

The Kinks were responsible for 1960s hits including 'You Really Got Me', 'Waterloo Sunset' and 'All Day And All Of The Night'.
