Gary Glitter song on GCSE syllabus

A Gary Glitter song has reportedly been listed as "related listening" for pupils studying GCSE music.

The 1970s song 'I'm The Leader Of The Gang' was selected as secondary material for a piece of exam coursework by The Assessment And Qualification Alliance (AQA), says The Sun.

A deputy headteacher has asked the AQA to withdraw the convicted paedophile's song from the paper, branding its inclusion "completely inappropriate".

"Boys and girls of 15 or 16 who select this song will go straight to the internet to find Glitter's music. I dread to think what they may find searching online for him," the father-of-two said.

"A national exam board should have the basic common sense not to recommend past works of a paedophile to teenagers."

An AQA spokesman said: "We have only just become aware that there are complaints and as a result are reviewing whether it is appropriate to have Gary Glitter in the coursework. Until the situation is reviewed we are unable to say what decision will be made."

Computer giant Hewlett Packard recently pulled part of an advertising campaign for its touch-screen model after it came to light that Glitter's 1972 hit 'Do You Wanna Touch Me' featured in promotions.

The glam rock musician, real name Paul Gadd, returned to the UK in August and was placed on the sex offenders register, having served a jail term in Vietnam for abusing two girls.
