Coldplay's Knebworth gig falls through

Coldplay's plans to play a mega-gig at Knebworth in summer 2009 have fallen through.

The band hinted last month that they would perform a special one-off show at the Hertfordshire location.

However, they were unable to secure the venue, with singer Chris Martin telling The Sun: "We tried to get Knebworth but it just wasn't possible."

Martin then suggested that the group will play at Wembley Stadium instead, saying: "I think we have thought of something else. Hopefully it's not the same day Oasis have booked it."

He added: "We wouldn't mind opening. It would be a great double bill."

Martin recently joked that his band would be willing to act as support on Take That's forthcoming tour.
