Celine Dion has been forced to postpone a number of concerts due to a respiratory virus.

The gigs were part of the North American leg of the singer's 'Taking Chances' world tour.

A statement from concert promoter AEG Live said Dion is suffering from a recurring infection that has been complicated by inflamed vocal chords.

"Her physician has instructed her to refrain from singing in order to completely recover," the statement read. Postponed dates have already been rescheduled.

The 40-year-old recently revealed that she would like to add to her family after the tour finishes. She already has seven-year-old son René-Charles with husband and manager René Angélil.
