The 36-year-old learned to play the drums for new album Safe Trip Home and said she now wants to develop her skills.
"Drumming made me listen to music differently - especially when I started playing along with things. I would do this thing of playing along with my iPod," she told the Daily Star.
"I'd actually love to be in a band at some point. The thing that would excite me next, to learn more, would be to play for someone else while they're singing. That would be really interesting."
She added: “Learning to play the drums as well really opened up my brain. I’ll be writing a song on the guitar, and maybe get a little stuck so I’ll move to the piano. Now it’s this really liberating thing that I can go to the drums."
Safe Trip Home was released this week.
