Speaking to the Daily Star, Dixon pointed to the success of pop acts such as Girls Aloud and Pink as an indication that the genre is in the middle of a resurgence.
"Around 2005, indie was dominating everything and radio stations weren't really supporting pop. Now it's had a huge surge again and it's become colourful with Girls Aloud, Pink and Adele," she said.
"It's a cycle. Things come around again so I wanted to write a pop record with broad strokes this time."
Dixon's second album The Alesha Show is released on Monday.
