The popstar said her "conservative family" background meant she was shocked by the revealing outfits.
Speaking on Loose Women, she said: "I come from a really conservative family; my grandfather's a priest and I go to church a couple of times a week. I still do.
"But I auditioned with a buttoned up shirt and some trouser slacks I got at [clothes store] Forever 21. I was super conservative so I was kind of scared when I saw the costumes when I first joined the group."
Scherzinger also revealed that the female burlesque troupe take their position as role models to young women very seriously.
"We try to lead by example in our lives with trying to stay healthy, trying to stay out of the stuff that you can get lost in," she said.
"It's about going after your dream and fulfilling that and working really hard to achieve that."
