Albarn hinted that a reunion may be on the cards earlier this month when he revealed that he had been "hanging out" with guitarist Graham Coxon.
When asked about the rumours, the frontman told the BBC: "Blur are certainly going to rehearse and see if we sound like we used to."
The singer was speaking at a performance of his opera Monkey: Journey To The West at London's BBC Radio Theatre.
Blur recorded seven studio albums and scored two number one singles during their 14-year career.
Coxon left Blur in 2002 to pursue a solo career. The rest of the group - Albarn, Alex James and Dave Rowntree - went on to record one further album, 2003's Think Tank.
