The singer said that Girls Aloud have a bigger public persona, whereas the Sugababes are more "private" people.
"I think one thing that's changed so much in this music industry now is that, I remember when I first released Overload and even when Heidi joined, things were all about the music," she told Radio 1.
"That was great for us because we're quite private people. Now it's all about being a celebrity and having the music at the same time. We're not that kind of band."
She added: "With Girls Aloud, they've come from a reality TV show and it's a lot more about being a celebrity. The public persona of theirs is definitely a lot bigger than Sugababes."
However, Buchanan claimed that her band will stand the test of time because of their commitment to writing music.
"The one thing that we've always stood by is longevity," she said. "Sugababes have been going for 12 years now and that's what we'll continue doing. Writing with each other and making music, because that's what's important. That we're here in the next couple of years and not necessarily being the flavour of the month."
Heidi Range recently blamed the group's record company for the disappointing sales of their latest album Catfights And Spotlights, which peaked in the charts at number eight.
