Lady GaGa, White Lies on BBC Sound list

Lady GaGa and White Lies are among the acts on the BBC's Sound Of 2009 longlist.

London duo The Big Pink, leftfield singer Dan Black, synth-pop pair Empire Of The Sun, singer-songwriter Florence And The Machine, robopop act Frankmusik and US hip-hop musician Kid Cudi are also nominated.

Completing the list are electropop musician La Roux, solo pop singer Little Boots, London-based rapper Master Shortie, doo-wop singer V.V. Brown, folk-rock act Mumford & Sons, electronica group Passion Pit and Australian rock band The Temper Trap.

The 15 acts, who were nominated by UK music critics, are supposed to be "the best up-and-coming acts for the coming year". It excludes performers from TV talent shows and artists that have already achieved fame on a soap or in another band.

A winner will be announced on January 9. Adele, Mika, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Bravery, Keane and 50 Cent have topped the poll in previous years.

Last year's list featured The Ting Tings, Duffy and Glasvegas.
