The Stereophonics have blasted press criticism that they have received over the past five years.

The group claimed that they no longer pay attention to media scrutiny, instead focusing on producing new music.

"Songs are first," frontman Kelly Jones told Music Week. "You've gotta put the work in on the songs and stick to your guns really."

Jones revealed that he has learned to just focus on writing good songs and is proud of the group's back catalogue.

"We had to do that, we had some good reviews up until 'Mr Writer' and after that, it took us five years to get back to where we started," he said.

The band released greatest hits package Decade In The Sun - Very Best Of last month.
