Editors frontman Tom Smith has disclosed that the group's new tracks are inspired by classic '80s science fiction films.

The band, who will head to the studio to work on their new album in February, have been using Terminator and Blade Runner as points of reference.

Smith told the Daily Record: "There's a real electronic sheen to it. A lot of it sounds like it could soundtrack Blade Runner, and we've been listening to Terminator a lot as well. We keep referencing that, but we're just trying as many different things as we can."

He added that the group have also experimented with choirs and violins, saying: "In one of the demo sessions we had a choir of kids come along and sing at the end of one of these songs.

"Another day Russell's girlfriend, who plays violin with Ra Ra Riot, played on a few songs."
