The indie singer, real name Florence Welch, released her first single 'Kiss With A Fist' in June. She is currently finishing her debut album with Island Records.
Last year's Critics' Choice gong was given to Adele, who went on to sell 1.2million copies of her album 19.
"Blimey a BRIT Award, wow the world's gone weird," said Florence. "Thank you so much to the critics. I'm making my album at the moment. It's sort of sounding like a choir, a harp, some metal chains and a piano all put through a car crusher, then hit with wooden planks really hard.
"I will see you at the awards. I'll be the one trying to get off with Katy Perry and passed out next to Leona Lewis."
Florence And The Machine will play at the Brits Nominations Launch at The Roundhouse on January 20. The Brits ceremony takes place at Earl's Court on February 18.
Pop singer Little Boots and West London rock outfit White Lies finished second and third on the critics' shortlist.
