Discussing the band's return with Absolute Radio, guitarist Graham Coxon said: "We all know our wells have not run dry so it's no act of desperation."
Lead singer Damon Albarn added: "It's something we've been thinking about for a while and we're coming back into focus because Graham and I have reconciled our differences which drove the band apart."
The Britpop group, who announced that they will reunite on Tuesday, last worked together as a four-piece in 2002.
They will play two live shows at London's Hyde Park next July.
