A 53-year-old man has become the oldest debut solo artist to pick up a record deal with the help of Terry Wogan.

Henry Priestman has been trying to sign to a label since 1978 and finally attracted interest from Universal after Wogan played song 'The New Blonde' on his Radio 2 breakfast show.

"Pop stardom is a young person's game but if my music makes people smile, then I'm happy," the singer said.

Universal Records will release Priestman's debut album The Chronicles Of Modern Life on January 19.
