The star released her last single, 'Wish I', in September 2005, but she insisted that she has not been suffering from writer's block.
"Well, my album was almost finished and ready to come out in 2007 but then it got held up by label politics and things like that," she told DS. "The album didn't actually take four years to make - it just seems that way now."
Jem will finally release her new album Down To Earth in February, but she insisted that her confidence has not been affected by the delay.
"You know, I tried not to get stressed about it because I learned from my first album that nothing ever goes according to plan in the music industry," she said.
"I'm not nervous about the time I've been away because I now have the attitude that it was all meant to be."
