The Australian singer has been absent from the charts since releasing 'Best Of' compilation Glorious in October 2007.
Having parted ways with record company Sony BMG, she is planning to release her new album on her own label.
"I am really excited to tell you that my new album is in the final stages of mixing and we are hoping to release it in the UK by March 2009," Imbruglia wrote on her official website.
"It has taken longer than I would have hoped to get to this point - I will spare you the gory details - but it feels very good to be in a position of control and being able to decide how this record will be delivered to the world."
Imbruglia also revealed that the first single from the album will premiere in February "if all goes according to plan".
