Amelle Berrabah has revealed that she was reluctant to join Sugababes because she expected to be bullied by Heidi Range and Keisha Buchanan.
The singer was recruited for the chart-topping group after Mutya Buena decided to quit in December 2005.
Berrabah has now admitted that tabloid reports of tension within the band played on her mind as she made her decision to join the girls.
"I must admit I was scared when I joined," she told Star magazine. "I'd heard about the infighting and bullying that supposedly went on and I believed it."
The 24-year-old added that she was pleasantly surprised by the behaviour of her bandmates, describing them as "lovely".
Meanwhile, Range insisted: "There were never any rows in the band, not even when Mutya Buena was in the line-up. I guess because we're girls people assume we're catty."
Sugababes are currently promoting 'No Can Do', the second single released from their latest album Catfights and Spotlights.
