According to The Sun, the Russian billionaire missed watching his football team to host a "lavish bash" in New York.
Kings Of Leon were reportedly paid £300,000 to perform a one-hour gig at the event.
"Kings Of Leon are one of the biggest bands around at the moment and Roman is a big fan," said a source.
"He had to pay a premium to get them to play the gig over Christmas because they were taking a well-earned break with their family after a very busy year."
Abramovich has previously paid Amy Winehouse and nu rave act Klaxons to perform at parties.
