The singer is "in a period where she wants to take on the pop world again", Tom Corson, the general manager of her record label, told The Wall Street Journal.
Masquerade, which features songwriting contributions from OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder and Swedish hitmakers Max Martin and Lukasz "Dr Luke" Gottwald, will be released in March.
Last year Tedder told DS that Clarkson's new songs will feature "big choruses" and "heavy drum programming".
Masquerade will be preceded by the single 'My Life Would Suck Without You', which will receive its US radio premiere on January 19.
Clarkson's last album, My December, was released in July 2007.
