Band member Rochelle Wiseman, who was previously part of S Club Juniors, insisted that the feat is possible if they work hard enough over the coming years.
"Eventually we want to be bigger than them - but at the moment we just want to go head-to-head with them," Wiseman told the Daily Star.
"We love them and respect what they've achieved and obviously we have to remember that we are a new band and they've been around for a long time."
Mollie King added: "We want to get bigger this year and if all goes well we might have something very exciting to announce. We can't tell you what it is yet, but it's exciting."
The girl group's new single 'Issues' will be released on Monday.
