Schneider, who was a co-founder of the German electronic band, confirmed his departure on the group's website. Ralf Hütter is now the only remaining original member of the band.
Hütter and Schneider's Krautrock music style is credited with revolutionising popular music in the 1970s. Their albums include Autobahn, Radio-Activity and 1977's Trans-Europe Express.
No reason for Schneider's departure has been given, however, he did not perform with the band on their 2008 world tour and was replaced on stage by Stefan Pfaffe.
Kraftwerk are still expected to tour with Radiohead across Central and South American in March.
