British acts dominated the top five bestselling albums worldwide in 2008.

Selling over 25 million albums, artists from the United Kingdom secured the five biggest-selling albums last year.

Topping the countdown were Coldplay, who shifted a total of 6.8 million copies of their fourth album Viva La Vida.

Despite releasing Back To Black in 2006, Amy Winehouse still had the second most popular album, selling a total of 5.1 million copies globally.

AC/DC secured the third biggest seller of the year, shifting five million copies of Black Ice, the veteran rockers' first studio album in eight years.

Welsh newcomer Duffy, who had Britain's bestselling album of the year, sold a total of 4.5 million copies of her debut Rockferry worldwide.

The fifth bestselling album worldwide went to former X Factor winner Leona Lewis, whose Spirit album had total worldwide sales of 4.3 million.

The chart incorporated sales from more than 34 different national charts and data from Russia, China and India who do not have official countdowns.
