Dee, whose real name was David Harman, sang with the band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. He passed away after a three-year battle with cancer, record company plugger Sean Cooney confirmed to the BBC.
"He didn't let it get him down. He was defying it," Cooney said.
His band's first chart appearance came in 1965 with the single 'You Make It Move', which reached number 26. They later had a 1968 number one with 'The Legend Of Xanadu', as well as other hits including 'Hideaway', 'Bend It!' and 'Save Me'.
Dee continued to play with the group until near the end of his life and had eight concerts scheduled before April.
