Franz Ferdinand have confirmed that they were glad to ditch their guitar-driven sound when they recorded their new album Tonight.
Band member Nick McCarthy said that the disc will provide a contrast to their self-titled 2004 debut and its 2005 follow-up You Could Have It So Much Better.
"I'm really bored by all the guitar music," McCarthy told The Times. "It's gone. It's finished. It's all over. There has to be something new again now. All these high-sounding guitars - that can't be it. On Tonight we're embracing synthesizers, electronics."
Discussing their new single 'Ulysses', Alex Kapranos revealed: "It's about loss of control and loving losing control. That's the whole Ulysses theme - he was lost at sea for ten years and rather than crying about it he went, 'Yes! I'm lost at sea! Let's have an adventure!'"
'Ulysses' will be released on Monday, with Tonight following on January 26.
