The Glasgow band were paired up with T.I. to play at Diesel's 30th birthday party in New York.
Having performed on the US rapper's single 'Live Your Life', band member Paul Thomson admitted that the favour was not returned.
"He was going to rap over 16 bars of 'Ulysses' as well but he had a federal curfew and had to go home... He had to be tucked up in bed by 2am," he told thehothits.com.
The rapper was charged with possession of three unregistered machine guns and two silencers and possession of firearms by a convicted felon in January 2008. He is expected to serve a year in jail in March 2009 after carrying out 1,000 hours of community service.
Thomson added that he was eager to appear 'gangsta' in front of him.
"I did the handshake with him. I didn't know what I was doing and I just started doing it immediately without thinking. Halfway through it I was like 'What am I doing?!"
Franz Ferdinand released 'Ulysses' on January 19.
