White Lies have entered the charts at number one with their debut album To Lose My Life.

The West London band - who finished second behind electropop singer Little Boots in the BBC's Sound of 2009 poll - becomes the first British act to top the albums chart this year.

Frontman Harry McVeigh said: "It feels truly amazing to have such incredible early success."

Kings of Leon remain at two with Only By The Night, while last week's chart-topper, the self-titled debut album from The Script, falls to three.

Meanwhile, The Saturdays' debut disc Chasing Lights climbs from 14 to a new peak of nine.
