The singer insisted that he enjoys performing in a band too much to launch a career on his own.
"I've never been interested in being a solo artist. In high school, there was no point where the idea of not having a band to play with me, or that whole thing, never appealed to me in the slightest," he told Uncut magazine.
"What's exciting to me about our band is what we're able to come up with together is so much better than what any one of us could do on our own."
Butler's wife Régine Chassagne and his brother William are both members of the group.
"I was never the type to be in a fan club, or be a super fan, but there's definitely times in your life when music is very important," he added.
The band's last album Neon Bible was released in March 2007 and reached number two in the UK and US charts.
