The 31-year-old's debut disc has been developed over the past two years and features collaborations with his father and ex-Liverpool ska band The Dead 60s, according to the Daily Mail.
"James is a very talented singer and an exceptional guitarist," said an insider. "He is actually as good a guitarist as his father and has written some excellent tunes with very good, strong lyrics."
The music is described as being "in the mould of Nirvana".
Speaking about the project last year, McCartney described his son's material as "sensational".
