EMI have put Olympic Studios up for sale and the band are thinking about placing a bid, a source told The Sun.
He said: "Bono, Edge and the rest of the band really enjoyed their time in Olympic. They knuckled down and really responded well to the place's atmosphere."
The source added that the band already have their own studio in Dublin but think the south-west London building could be a "wise investment" if the maths works out.
Last week, US musician Taylor Deupree claimed that U2 had ripped off the front cover of his 2006 album Specification. Fifteen for their new record No Line On The Horizon.
