Songwriter John Martyn dies, aged 60

The musician, born Iain David McGeachy in New Malden, Surrey, was the son of two light opera singers and went on to perform with Phil Collins, David Gilmour and Eric Clapton.
A notice on his official webpage reads: "John Martyn 11th September 1948 - 29th January 2009.
"With heavy heart and an unbearable sense of loss we must announce that John died this morning."
Martyn's most recent album On The Cobbles features Mavis Staples, Paul Weller and The Verve's Nick McCabe.
