Franz Ferdinand lead singer Alex Kapranos is quoted by PA as saying: "We played with them about three years ago in France. It's fantastic. They still are an amazing live band."
The View's Kieren Webster was equally enthusiastic in his praise, saying: "They've got good songs, a career spanning a good few years. You can't just be a flash in the pan to get the Godlike Genius."
The NME Godlike Genius Award, which The Cure will pick up next month, has previously been won by U2, The Clash and the late John Peel.
