The 'I'm Real' singer has opted to focus on acting and producing rather than working on a new studio album, according to MSNBC.
"Jennifer hasn't been able to be considered a real recording success since she's been with Marc [Anthony, husband]. No matter how hard she tries, she can't go back and be Jenny from the Block," a souce said.
"Those days have passed, and it's not what Jennifer or Marc want. Having another film success or being behind a really great show will be better for both their careers."
The 39-year-old has signed up to produce a series called Rebel for Fox TV and will star in new movie Plan B.
Lopez's fifth English-language album Brave reached number 24 in October 2007. She is expected to release a Greatest Hits collection later this year.
