The 12-track LP, entitled The Eternal, has been co-produced by the band with John Agnello.
It was recorded at the end of last year at the independent icons' own Echo Canyon West studio in Hoboken and will be released on June 9.
The album is the band's 16th studio LP and their first with new label Matador.
It is also the first to feature their touring bassist, former Pavement man Mark Ibold.
Frontman Thurston Moore previously revealed that the group is interested in playing this year's Glastonbury festival.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Sonic Youth will release a split 7" single with Beck to mark Record Store Day.
