The producer has underlined the importance of bringing in the guitarist to contribute to Grace/Wastelands.
Street has previously collaborated with Coxon on a number of occasions as a producer for recently-reformed Britpop icons Blur.
He said: "One of the key things I felt I needed to to do was bring in someone fresh as a musician to work with [Doherty] - to help nurture and put a slightly different angle on things.
"I think one of the key decisions that we made very early on in the record was to get someone like Graham Coxon involved on guitar.
"I think that Pete felt inspired by the fact that someone as good as Graham said yes in the first place to work with him."
He added that Doherty played guitar off Coxon in a similar manner to how he worked with Carl Barat in The Libertines.
Earlier this week, Doherty's former bandmate Barat confirmed his own first solo shows at the Escobar in Wakefield in March.
