Speaking to MTV News, the Fall Out Boy bassist admitted that he was "very excited" to be helming the show in Sydney on March 27.
"I just found out. Being MTV family, hosting...will give me the perfect excuse to come back to this spectacular country and for an even bigger party!" he said.
He added that he was looking forward to "getting to hang out with a lot of other bands, heroes, enemies. Doing the red carpet is always pretty cool, with the fans shouting".
Performers at the event will include Kings Of Leon and The Killers, while The Hills star Audrina Patridge has been handed co-presenting duties.
Previous show hosts include Wyclef Jean (2008), Fergie and Good Charlotte (2007) and Wentz's wife Ashlee Simpson (2006).
