The band will kick off with a date in Barcelona on June 30 and stay in Europe until August 22, before crossing the Atlantic to play North America from September 12 to October 28.
U2 will tour the rest of the world until autumn 2010, with full details to be announced on March 9, Billboard reports.
It has emerged that the band will play in a 360-degree configuration with a cylindrical video screen, which will boost capacity and enable scaled ticket prices.
Guitarist The Edge said: "We're very excited about the idea to go on the road with this album.
"It's an album that I think is going to translate so well to the live context. The songs we've tried in rehearsal are sounding fantastic, so that's got everyone really fired up."
