Last week, a report in The Independent suggested that Rowntree would work full-time for a law firm when Blur complete their touring commitments.
On the official Blur forum, Rowntree said: "I want to set the record straight following the bizarre and inaccurate piece in The Independent.
"As anyone who follows the band will know, we all have interests outside Blur.
"But if we decide to do more as Blur, I will obviously continue to fit my studies around the band and not the other way round. Whatever else I do, first and foremost I am a musician."
Blur have confirmed shows at Hyde Park and Manchester as well as a headline performances at the Glastonbury, T In The Park and Oxegen festivals.
