Fans reportedly turned up to Fitzpatrick's Irish bar in Aberdeen last Saturday to see The Pogues singer because the event was advertised on posters and local radio.
The Daily Star reports that staff said that MacGowan had missed his plane, and a notice at the venue informed concert-goers that the gig was cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances".
MacGowan's representatives have insisted that he was never booked to play there and was actually performing in Florida that night.
"At no time have we had any communication with any venue in Aberdeen for Shane to perform there," a spokesman said.
