The band had originally wanted to announce the dates in mid-May to coincide with the anniversary of the release of The Stone Roses, but the news leaked early at the weekend, The Daily Record reports.
It is believed that drummer Alan "Reni" Wren, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield and guitarist John Squire had been in favour of the the reunion for some time, with only the reservations of singer Ian Brown blocking a comeback.
The band have reportedly booked 21 UK dates and are also considering a US performance.
An insider said: "It's taken a lot of time and effort to get Ian to agree, but he's really up for it. He was the sticking point throughout the proceedings, but he's finally relented and signed on the dotted line.
"There's been a lot of speculation in the past, but this is the real deal. The rest of the band were really up for it, especially when they realised the amount of money on the table."
He added: "Ian has forged a really successful solo career and wasn't very receptive to their plans. It's taken a while, but he's finally come around to the notion."
Reni originally left The Stone Roses in 1995 and was replaced by Robbie Maddix. Squire left a year later and was replaced by Aziz Ibrahim.
