Vicious, real name Simon John Ritchie, was a Sex Pistols fan who replaced Glen Matlock when he left the band in February 1977.
He died of a heroin overdose in 1979 while on bail for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
Vicious was followed by Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne in second place and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in third in the poll by Orange.

Orange head of music Richard Wheeler said: "There are some colourful characters in rock 'n' roll and it's clear contemporary artists still have some way to go before they knock these legends off their perch."
