The Norwegian duo, who last released a record four years ago, admitted that their creative process did not take the conventional route favoured by most artists.
"At one point we became addicted to showering, because that's normally where we have our most creative ideas," Torbjørn Brundtland told DS. "Mostly we shower separately because we're quite old-fashioned in that way.
"After that we became addicted to opium. Sven [Berge, bandmate] called me one night and said he wasn't real. I was like, 'Yeah, of course you're not real'. So it meant that we took our time. Somehow, maybe magically, we managed to produce this record."
The star joked that the group had come up with an intricate arrangement to make sure they had the same idea on what musical direction to take.
"We like to swap drugs so that we can ensure a level of quality control," he said.
"We swap positions, with one of us being close and in the microcosmos and the other being the one who sees the broader picture."
Röyksopp release Junior on Monday.
