Jimmy Chamberlin has left Smashing Pumpkins, it has been announced.

The drummer was one of the original members of the US band and played on all of their albums except for the 1998 release Adore.

Founder Billy Corgan said in a statement on the group's website that he will still write and record as Smashing Pumpkins and will be heading to the studio this spring.

Chamberlin and Corgan reformed the Pumpkins in 2006 after their break-up six years earlier, going on to release the LP Zeitgeist in 2007.
