The album, recorded with a live orchestra in just two days before Christmas, is a tribute to his late mother Marie, who died of breast cancer eleven years ago.
It becomes Keating's fourth chart-topping album as a solo artist and eighth including releases from Boyzone.
Keating told the Official Charts Company: "I'm so delighted that this album has gone to number one, especially as it's so personal to me.
"Most of the songs on the album were my mother's favourites, but some relate to the period just after she passed away and are still as important."
Annie Lennox's The Collection remains at two this week, while Kings of Leon rebound to three with Only By The Night.
U2's latest album No Line On The Horizon, which spent the previous fortnight at number one, tumbles to six.
