Michael Eavis has said that it is unlikely that Glastonbury would ever have a pop act headlining.

Eavis's comments mean that a return for Kylie Minogue, who was scheduled to play in 2005, now appear unlikely.

"I don't think we'll ever go down the pop route for getting a headliner for Glastonbury," he told the Daily Star. "Madonna hasn't been asked by us."

Minogue pulled out of the event after being diagnosed with breast cancer and was unable to play in to 2007 due to touring commitments.

The 73-year-old festival organiser also admitted that he was thrilled by the prospect of watching Bruce Springsteen headline the Pyramid Stage this year.

"Getting Springsteen as a headliner is so exciting," he said. "I saw him play two and a half hours in Cardiff and that's what turned me on to the idea of having him.

"I'd never seen him before although I'd heard the occasional record. I was so blown out by him I had to make it happen."
