The star admitted that he struggled to differentiate between Lady GaGa and other similar artists because they showed no originality.
"A lot of modern songs rely on Auto-Tune too much - not as a tool for tuning, but for giving vocals that weird brittle effect," he told DS.
"It makes people like Rihanna, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry all the f**king same. I like organic elements in music. I like a vocal that sounds like it came out of someone's mouth rather than a weird singing robot."
The 'Embers' singer claimed that the current resurgence of electropop did not appear to add anything to the genre.
"A lot of these artists were bound to come around, but it seems like the '80s have been here for almost a decade already," he said.
"I think it's good when people use elements of other songs, but I don't like straight rip-offs, and a lot of these new records sound like they've used exactly the same instrument and vocal tones. They literally sound exactly like Yazoo, which is weird."
