The singer, who has twice appeared in NME's annual Cool List, accused the 'Poker Face' star of being a bad role model.
"I can't stand Lady GaGa. She is basically selling crap to kids," he told the Daily Star.
"I think she's terrible and really ugly. I hate her."
Donohue added that he thought X Factor winner Leona Lewis set a much better example to young people.
"Leona Lewis seems dull but nice. She has standards, nice skin and can sing," he said.
"Whereas Lady GaGa is trash and dresses like a prostitute."
The Rakes released their third album Klang on March 23.
