The Pet Shop Boys star admitted that the track 'Pandemonium' on the group's new album Yes was inspired by Doherty's relationship with Kate Moss.
"It's correct that the song was inspired by their story. I've always been quite intrigued by Pete Doherty," he told NME.
"I remember before the NME Awards one year they had a discussion on some late-night TV programme. Pete Doherty was on and I thought he had amazing charisma and style.
"Someone mentioned Franz Ferdinand and his only comment was, 'Do you know how old the lead singer is? 32!' I thought he had a bit of Boy George in him."
Tennant recently described the standard of music created through reality television as "turgid".
